Govt. College, Nankhari

Govt. College Nankhari is one of the nine degree colleges established by the Himachal Pradesh Government, as per order No. EDN-A-Ka(1)-1/2014 dated January 15, 2014. Located in the remote, snow-covered mid-mountain ranges of the Himalayas at an altitude of around 2500 meters, the college's coordinates are 31°18′16″N 77°35′21″E. Nankhari is situated 60 km from Rampur and 92.3 km from Shimla. Due to the challenging conditions, only a few students could previously afford to travel to Rampur or Shimla for higher education.

Dear Students,

The true essence of education at GDC, Nankhari, is best captured in this thought since the institution firmly upholds the ideology that education is not so much about feeding facts into the mind as the awakening of curiosity in the soul. This ideology is best reflected and goes hand in hand with the mission of the institution;

‘Tejasvinavadhitamastu’

which literally means ‘Let our Knowledge be enlightening.’ Thus, the institution categorically emphasises that education's true goal is to awaken a person's ability to imagine and create, thereby enlightening his/her being. The faculty at the institution are a bunch of ardently devoted educators who adhere to the belief that ‘True educators are not those who instruct you but those who help you to think for yourself.’

The institution aims to promote the overall development of students, viz, physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual. With this aim in view, the institution imparts holistic education to the students that encompasses academics and co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Along with various cultural and sports activities, various other activities related to environmental awareness, women empowerment, value education, health education and personality development are effectively woven into the main fabric of the college curriculum. The institution is privileged to have a highly qualified and dedicated faculty, which leaves no stone unturned to foster a positive learning environment for students and to ignite their young minds with curiosity, zeal and enthusiasm.

The institution has become instrumental in providing the best possible education to the youth at their doorstep in such difficult, hilly terrain, thereby equipping them with various skills and inner strengths to face the challenges of the world with confidence and resilience. Our students are taught to soar high, explore the unlimited avenues of tremendous opportunities, and stay attached to their roots simultaneously. We firmly believe that education is not just about academic excellence and material success but also about character formation. Therefore, we try to instil in our students the values of integrity, discipline, and empathy and teach them to give back to society through community service. The students are motivated to participate actively in social awareness and environmental sustainability campaigns. The students are constantly made to engage with larger social causes by the competent and efficient NSS, Rovers and Rangers units and by various clubs and societies. The institution firmly believes in the core values of morality, service to others, humanity and kindness. As such, these units contribute to the growth of students as conscientious humans by inculcating these values in them. Thus, The institution sincerely tries to adhere in letter and spirit to its conviction that education is the process of waking up not just to one's potential but also to one's responsibilities as a citizen. The institution will always strive to remain an enlightened place of learning where we continue to push the boundaries of knowledge to build an empowered community.
