Govt. Degree College, Nankhari

Govt. College Nankhari is one of the nine degree colleges established by the Himachal Pradesh Government, as per order No. EDN-A-Ka(1)-1/2014 dated January 15, 2014. Located in the remote, snow-covered mid-mountain ranges of the Himalayas at an altitude of around 2500 meters, the college's coordinates are 31°18′16″N 77°35′21″E. Nankhari is situated 60 km from Rampur and 92.3 km from Shimla. Due to the challenging conditions, only a few students could previously afford to travel to Rampur or Shimla for higher education.

The establishment of this college in such a difficult terrain has not only prevented students from having to relocate but has also inspired underprivileged individuals to pursue their educational aspirations. The college is expected to become a significant center of academic excellence, serving students from twelve nearby government and private senior secondary schools, as well as those from adjacent areas like Rohru, Jubbal, and Kotkhai Tehsils. Starting with just 14 students in the 2014-15 academic session, the college now enrolls 85 students in its BA and B.Com programs.

Currently, the college operates from the vocational building of Govt. Sr. Sec. School Nankhari. Its own building is under construction and is expected to be ready for use by the next academic session. The college offers courses in the Arts and Commerce streams, including English, Economics, Hindi, History, Sociology, Political Science, Mathematics, Music (I), and Commerce. Since 2018, the college has successfully implemented the University Grants Commission (UGC) Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) and follows the annual system as adopted by Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) Shimla-5.
